1. Waterproofing the Wood:
   • Extend the life of solid wood furniture by treating it with a waterproofing product, using oils like walnut, tung, or linseed.
   • Prepare the wood by removing flaws with a metal file or sandpaper before applying the oil mixture.
   • Allow the applied coat to dry for at least 30 minutes, then wipe off excess oil and let the wood cure for 24 hours.
   • Consider using a sealant as an alternative waterproofing method.
2. Regular Cleaning Routine:
   • Clean wooden furniture weekly by wiping with a dry cloth, and address spills promptly.
   • Use safe cleaning products designed for wood; avoid lemon oil and all-purpose cleaners.
   • For sticky or heavily soiled spots, use a cloth with mild dish detergent and finish with a damp cloth and a dry, lint-free cloth.
   • Polish the furniture every six months with a clean cloth, rubbing in the direction of the wood grain.
3. Protective Measures:
   • Avoid exposing solid wood furniture to direct sunlight to prevent premature fading.
   • Keep furniture away from extreme temperature changes, air vents, and radiators.
   • Refrain from placing rubber or plastic-based materials on the furniture to prevent damage to the wood's finish.
   • Promptly clean spills with a blotting action, and be cautious with items like perfume and medications that may harm the finish.
   • Store wooden furniture away from garages, attics, warehouses, or basements to prevent premature aging.
4. Preventative Measures for Environmental Damage:
   • Protect furniture from environmental factors like heat and sunlight by avoiding placement in front of uncovered windows, fireplaces, and vents.
   • Use coasters and avoid placing hot items directly on the furniture to prevent damage from heat and rings.
   • Protect wooden surfaces with tablecloths or placemats to prevent spills.
5. Re-oiling and Re-waxing:
   • Incorporate re-oiling and re-waxing into the maintenance routine, especially after long-term storage.
   • Clean the furniture, prepare with steel wool, apply oil liberally, and let it absorb for 15 minutes.
   • If a protective coating is desired, let it set for 24 hours before proceeding.
   • For pieces with a wax coating, prepare with steel wool, apply one coat of wax, let it set for 20 minutes, then remove excess and buff until smooth.
